“Die By The Shtick” is a dramedy following a young man putting together a Christmas-themed shiva for his recently-deceased twin brother. The film draws heavy inspiration from FX’s “The Bear” in its use of claustrophobic and anxiety-inducing handheld takes, which we augmented with an Angenieux 30-80 zoom lens on the Alexa Mini. The film takes place over the course of a few hours in a single day, and to sell this, I decided to light the film to make it appear as if the sun was setting. This also gave an emotional arc between the opening and closing scenes, which are the only two scenes taking place in the bedroom location. The film was shot in April, 2024 in Long Island by a predominantly-Jewish crew. The film marks my second collaboration with Writer/Director Justin Scolnick. The film is currently in post-production and is eyeing a 2025 festival run.
